The cable-and-lace pattern in the circular yoke of this pullover was inspired in part by some sketches by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher, who was known for his explorations of tessellation and negative space. The cables evoke the shape of leaves, which gradually increase in size as they flow down the yoke and the intersection with the stocking stitch fabric of the body of the pullover creates an impression of flickering flames.
